Check your account’s billing or subscription page directly, rather than assuming a payment went through, since an expired card or a failed charge can quietly lapse a plan without always sending a notice you’ll actually see.

What you need

  • Access to the account holding the paid storage plan
  • Your payment method details, in case they need updating

A lapsed plan isn’t instant

A lapsed plan doesn’t usually delete your photos instantly, but it can mean you’re quietly back on the free tier’s storage limit while still thinking you have a much larger paid allowance.

How to check your plan is renewing

  1. Go directly to your account’s billing or subscription settings. For Google, this is under myaccount.google.com > Payments & subscriptions. For Apple, it’s Settings > your name > Subscriptions.
  2. Check the plan status and next billing date. Confirm it says active or similar, with a genuine upcoming renewal date, rather than showing an expired, cancelled, or payment-failed status.
  3. Check the payment method on file is current. An expired card is one of the most common causes of a quietly lapsed subscription — confirm the card number and expiry date are still correct.
  4. Look for any recent payment-failure emails you might have missed. Search your email for the provider’s name alongside words like payment, failed, or update, in case a notice arrived and was missed or filtered.
  5. Update your payment details if anything looks wrong. If the card has expired or a charge failed, update your payment method directly in the account’s billing settings to keep the plan active.

Check the next payment date is correct

Your billing page should show an active plan with a valid, current payment method and a genuine future renewal date. If all three of those check out, your plan is renewing properly.

If a payment has already failed

If the billing page shows a problem you can’t resolve yourself, the provider’s support chat or help centre is the fastest way to sort out a payment issue directly.
