In Adobe Express on your phone, use Generative AI > Remove object on a copied photo, then check the replacement area before keeping it.

The tool can invent a plausible background. It cannot establish what was hidden behind the object.

What you need

Use the Adobe Express mobile app, an account with access to the feature and a harmless practice photograph. Check the current plan, credits and download limits before starting; this guide does not promise free access.

This is an online AI workflow. Your image is supplied to the service. Read its handling terms before using private family material.

1. Keep the source and name the target

Keep the original unchanged and prepare a separate working copy. Choose one small distraction away from a person for your first attempt.

A cable near the lower corner is a clearer target than several objects crossing someone’s hands. Decide what must stay unchanged.

Try a crop first if the object is near an edge. Compare it at the intended viewing size. Keeping the original is also reasonable if the distraction matters less than the memory.

Use an unaltered photograph when documenting evidence or conditions. Removing a person or meaningful object can change what the scene says.

2. Open the removal tool

From Express Home, select Generative AI in the top panel. Choose Remove object and upload the working image from your device.

Check that it is the intended copy before continuing. Do not take a new picture of an old screen merely to feed the tool; use the sound digital file you already have.

If the feature or access prompt differs, consult the mobile help linked below. Avoid starting a purchase just to discover which button the guide means.

3. Mark one area

Adjust Brush size and highlight the object. Include a little surrounding area, as Adobe advises, then select Remove.

Keep the selection limited enough to understand. Brushing across several unrelated distractions makes unintended changes harder to notice.

Review the offered result. More shows additional options where available. Another candidate is an alternative, not evidence of a more accurate hidden background.

4. Inspect before keeping

Compare the edited area with the source. Check edges, shadows, reflections and nearby lines. A missing cable with a bent paving line is not a clean result.

Inspect faces, hands, hair, clothing and text near the selection. Look beyond the brush boundary for changes you did not request.

Return to normal viewing size and compare with the crop candidate. Choose Keep only if the result serves your purpose; use Discard to reject it.

After a few purposeful attempts, stop if meaningful details keep changing. Repeated generation is not a reason to accept a misleading version.

5. Download and check the saved copy

Select the download icon. Locate the downloaded image on your device and open it outside Express.

Check that you saved the accepted version, including the full frame and changed area. Inspect its dimensions if you intend to print it.

Keep a distinct edited name and the untouched source. For family records, include a short explanation such as “Edited to remove a foreground cable”.

If you get stuck

An awkward patch may need a smaller selection or a fresh attempt from the source. If it affects an important person or detail, use the crop or original.

If the download is missing, check the app’s completion message and your device’s download destination. Do not delete the source while searching.

Next step

Check faces and meaningful details after AI editing.
